World Lymphedema Day
March 6th is World Lymphedema Day! We want to help educate the world and spread awareness for the lymphatic diseases.
What is Lymphedema?
Lymphedema is a chronic lymphatic disease that causes swelling in part of the body. It can be hereditary or develop after surgery, infection, radiation, or other physical trauma.
Chronic swelling and a feeling of heaviness may be the first sign of the disease.
Lymphedema Treatment
There is currently no cure for lymphedema, but the gold standard for treatment is Complete Decongestive Therapy. It involves exercise, skin care, compression therapy, and manual drainage.
We Can Help!
At Indiana Vein Specialists, we offer physician evaluation and lymphatic physical therapy. Our physical therapist, Sara Salinas, PT, CLT-LANA, is available for evaluation and treatment.
Sara recently earned her LANA certification from the Lymphology Association of North America. She specializes in lymphedema treatment, and is dedicated to empowering people to be a part of their own healing.
