Dr. Michael Shao is a board-certified vascular surgeon who is proud to join the amazing team at Indiana Vein Specialists® to deliver state-of-the-art, minimally-invasive treatments for vein disease. He is committed to caring for each patient with empathy and respect.  

Prior to joining Indiana Vein Specialists®, Dr. Shao practiced the full breadth of vascular surgery for 12 years at a community teaching hospital where he was appointed Section Chief of Vascular Surgery. During this time, he found that some of the happiest, most grateful patients were those for whom he provided vein treatment.  

Prior to starting practice, Dr. Shao completed 9 years of combined training in a general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Shao is a nationally recognized expert on venous and lymphatic disease, with recent publications and conference presentations to physician peers on the topic.  

Personal/Community Interest:

Dr. Shao enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children. The family enjoys boating in the summertime and a variety of fun activities throughout the year.
